Sorbitol Dehydrogenase Assay Kit - Information

Assay Genie's non-radioactive, colorimetric SDH assay is based on the reduction of the tetrazolium salt MTT in a NADH-coupled enzymatic reaction to a reduced form of MTT which exhibits an absorption maximum at 565 nm. The increase in absorbance at 565 nm is directly proportional to the enzyme activity.

Applications

For quantitative determination of sorbitol dehydrogenase enzyme activity.

Sorbitol Dehydrogenase Assay Kit - Key Features

  • Fast and sensitive. Linear detection range (20 sample): 0.1 to 125 U/L for 12 min reaction.
  • Convenient and high-throughput. Homogeneous "mix-incubate-measure" type assay. Can be readily automated on HTS liquid handling systems for processing thousands of samples per day.

Entrez Gene Summary for SORD Gene

Sorbitoldehydrogenase(SORD; EC 1.1.1.14) catalyzes the interconversion of polyols and their corresponding ketoses, and together with aldose reductase (ALDR1; MIM 103880), makes up thesorbitolpathway that is believed to play an important role in the development of diabetic complications (summarized by Carr and Markham, 1995 [PubMed 8535074]). The first reaction of the pathway (also called the polyol pathway) is the reduction of glucose tosorbitolby ALDR1 with NADPH as the cofactor. SORD then oxidizes thesorbitolto fructose using NAD(+) cofactor.[supplied by OMIM, Jul 2010]

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for SORD Gene

DHSO_HUMAN,Q00796Convertssorbitol to fructose. Part of the polyol pathway that plays an important role in sperm physiology. May play a role in the sperm motility by providing an energetic source for sperm.
